About the department

The department of synthesis and sintering of superhard materials at extreme p, T parameters was established in 1981 on the basis of laboratory №1, whose main tasks were the synthesis of diamond and cubic boron nitride. Dozens of types of superhard materials have been created by the efforts of the department"s employees, new designs of high pressure and temperature equipment for the synthesis of superhard materials that are competitive on the world market have been developed.

Scientific directions and tasks

Establishment of regularities of crystallization, solid-phase, liquid-phase and conversion sintering of materials at high pressures. Study of thermodynamics, kinetics, mass transfer processes and structure formation of materials based on diamond, cubic boron nitride, carbides, boride and nitride. Development of technologies for creating superhard materials at high pressures.
