Structure of the Department
Department ¹ 7 – Promising technologies of superhigh pressures, dispersed materials and sintering of ceramics (Head of Department – corresponding member of NASU, prof. Dr. Tatiana Prikhna).
Laboratory ¹ 7/1 – High pressure technology for the synthesis of superhard materials powder (Head of Laboratory. Dr. Alexander Borimsky).).
Laboratory ¹ 7/2 – Chemistry and technology of dispersed superhard materials (Acting Head of Laboratory. Dr. Galina Ilnitskaya).
About the department and its research work
Department ¹ 7 was established in 2005 on the basis of several departments of the Institute, which were engaged in scientific activities of the foundation of the Institute. Department also include laboratory of high-pressure and laboratory of dispersed materials.
Scientific development of the department are in the area of physical chemistry and physical-technical Materials Science, in particular, the creation of super-hard crystalline dispersed materials, as well as functional and construction ceramic materials with the use of high and super-high pressures and temperatures. Department scientists are working in the field of superconducting materials, nanostructure materials, MAX, smart and heat-resistant materials and also in field of materials which absorbing microwave radiation. The department developed technology of synthesis, sintering process at high and superhigh pressure and the removal of dispersed materials (synthetic diamonds and nanodiamonds, cubic boron nitride) of synthesis products and the improvement of their functional characteristics of chemical, physical and electro-chemical methods. In addition, the activities of the department focused on study the fundamental physical and chemical properties of materials under development, the establishment of relationships between terms of preparation, structure and properties, finding areas of their effective practical use.
An important aspect of the department associated with development and production of unique units high and very high pressure (up to 15 GPa), and devices with large displacement (4000 cm3), which will design to manufacture large-size ceramic products (100-150 mm in diameter at pressures up to 2 GPa). Currently in the department are working to create high-temperature superconducting film materials (system Y-Ba-Cu-O and Mg-B), Josephson junctions and multilayer sendvich structures based on them. Works in the field impulse electrical discharge dispersion of conductive compounds (metals, hard and heavy alloys) for the manufacture of ultra-high-purity powders and nanopowders, and also getting powdered oxides and carbides.
